This Mary Ann Russo Memorial Jazz Scholarship Concert pairs the
TJO with numerous outstanding Toledo vocalists from a group including
Ramona Collins,
Lisa Young, Kim Buehler, Lori LeFevre Johnson and more. Don’t miss this tribute to a local legend that provides funding for
private vocal instruction and graduation scholarship opportunities for T.S.A. students.

The Toledo Jazz Orchestra presents a tribute to jazz icon Duke
Ellington. The band will perform works from the entire spectrum
of his compositions, along with the works of his alter ego Billy
Strayhorn. The concert will feature local favorite Nate Gurley on
vocals, singing some of the Ellington songbook popularized by
Al Hibbler, Ella Fitzgerald and a host of others. Selections will
include Take The A Train, Don’t Get Around Much Anymore, I Got It
Bad (And That Ain’t Good), Sophisticated Lady, Caravan, In A Mellow
Tone, Cottontail and much, much more. Nothing sounds better
than a night of “Duke”.

the Toledo Junior Jazz Orchestra in their second annual performance

The most passionate big band fans are those of the Stan Kenton
Orchestra. The Toledo Jazz Orchestra will once again highlight
the music of this great band and by popular demand, will bring
back the band’s most legendary drummer Peter Erskine. Peter is
arguably the greatest big band drummer of this era, as witnessed
in his performance with the TJO last season. He has also recorded
with the big bands of Stan Kenton, Maynard Fergusen, Patrick
Williams, Bob Florence, Bobby Mintzer and Jaco Pastorius. He has
recorded with Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand and Diana Krall,
and has released 25 CDs as leader or co-leader. Peter has recorded
on over 500 CDs and motion picture soundtracks.
